Employee Benefit ~ Client Gift ~ Make Your Workplace or Event Memorable ~ Show You Care About Their Wellness
"I want to thank you for coming to the building where I work. I can really tell that the massages you've given have worked for me. When I first started coming to you, I had back pain - since then, I haven't had one problem with my back." - Linda in Salem
"Melissa has vast experience working with agencies & employees, including our office. She has gained a reputation of professionalism, ability to adapt quickly to individual style and needs, and is an OUTSTANDING massage therapist!"
Approximately half of my business consists of what is known as "on-site chair massage". What is that exactly?
Your therapist brings a special massage chair into your workplace (or perhaps a special event). Participants remain clothed, no oil is used. We massage primarily the neck, shoulders, back and arms and focus your session based on your preferences and preferred areas to work on. Chair massage can be done anywhere and takes up minimal space, making it perfect for special events and corporate offices.
Sessions typically run 15 or 30 minutes, so they can fit easily into scheduled break times. Cost is $1 per minute. Most companies we serve locally make the service available to their employees and the participating employees pay for their own services. Some larger companies pay for their employees as an employee benefit and this is also seen commonly when we are contracted for health fairs, etc. for the employees or special events in general. For companies looking to pay on their participants' behalf, please contact me for an hourly rate based on the amount of service purchased.
It's amazing what a small massage break can do for chronic physical tension as well as mental well-being. Research has been done to measure the positive effects chair massage in a workplace has on employees, and this is what they've found:
Lower Workplace Stress
Stress-related employee turnover, absenteeism and waning morale all affect the bottom line. Job stress and related problems cost companies an estimated $200 billion or more annually, based on information from the American Institute of Stress and the American Psychological Association. From personal experience, I often hear chair massage participants say they feel they can go on with the rest of their workday now that they have had a chance to de-stress. Relaxed workers are more likely to cooperate with each other, and lowering stress lowers both anxiety and hostility, improving the work environment for everyone.
Improve Productivity
On-site chair massage can significantly improve employee problem solving abilities . A recent study in American Psychologist gave one group of workers a 15 minute rest, and another, a 15 minute massage. The group that received the massage performed significantly better on complicated tasks like math problems. Workplace Chair Massage also improves creative thinking and relieves fatigue. In addition, by lowering stress, chair massage helps eliminate absenteeism, making your team more competitive. In my personal experience employees have shared with me the only reason they came to work that particular day was because it was "massage day", which means our presence alone increased that company's productivity that day. Also, we send people away feeling better and more informed about preserving their physical well-being in the workplace through stretching and massage, allowing them to focus more fully on their tasks and not on their various aches.
Improve Health
Corporate chair massage can help keep your employees healthy as well as happy. Massage has been shown to reduce blood pressure, relieve arthritis, improve joint and muscle aches especially in painful areas of the neck and back, and even increase immunity to colds and flu. In addition, workplace chair massage can play a very important role is preventing and treating the pain and numbness associated with excessive keyboard and mouse use. Improved health also decreases healthcare costs. An ounce of prevention...
Improve Job Satisfaction
Providing on-site massage adds a caring element into the workplace that employees really appreciate. As more companies choose to support their employees' wellness by offering access to resources such as massage, a chair massage program can even help attract skilled workers in the first place.
But won't employees be too relaxed to work productively after a massage?
No, just the opposite, short massages refresh and rejuvenate. Controlled studies at Duke, Georgetown and Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami School of Medicine showed that workers who received short chair massages demonstrated 1) decreased frontal EEG alpha and beta waves and increased delta activity consistent with enhanced alertness; 2) math problems were completed in significantly less time with significantly fewer errors after the massage; and 3) anxiety, cortisol (stress hormone) and job stress levels were significantly lower, while workers who only rested for the same period of time did not. Studies show that short massages recharge and refresh, while longer massages cross the threshold that cause the body to go into a different state of relaxation.
Starting a chair massage program is simple. We need a small space to work, often an empty office, wellness room or small conference room works well. A schedule will need to be kept either by a contact person on-site or by us. A place and some people...we do the rest!
